Ahmed’s father was arranging ransom money when the boy’s body was found.

UCH SHAREEF: An 11-year-old boy was kidnapped, raped and killed by his maternal uncle.

Police officials said that the boy was murdered after his parents paid a ransom to the kidnappers.

Bait Ahmed resident 11-year-old Ahmed disappeared from his home approximately 15 days ago. Ahmed’s family told the police that he was outside the house playing cricket in the grounds near his house.
“When he didn’t come home by night fall we began to get worried. After spending hours searching for him, we called the police,” Ahmed’s father Iqbal said.

Iqbal said that two days after Ahmed disappeared the family received a call from the kidnappers demanding Rs500,000. “They said they would give us two weeks to come up with the money and I had sold off my motorcycle,” Iqbal said, adding that police told them they were also searching for the kidnappers.

Police officials found Ahmed’s mutilated body abandoned near a field on Sunday morning. Bahawalpur District Police Officer (DPO) Babar Bakht said that the family had been coordinating with the police. “We told them to arrange the money and that we were looking for the boy in the meantime but we found his body this morning,” he said. “The body was mutilated and the boy had obviously been tortured,” Bakht said, adding that the body had been sent to the rural health centre for an autopsy.

According to Iqbal, the kidnappers initially demanded Rs500,000 in ransom but when he said he could only arrange Rs300,000 they agreed. “They told me to put the money in a gunny bag and leave it in a sugarcane field near Chandpoor,” Iqbal said, adding that he had left the money on Saturday morning. “We were expecting to hear news of our son being released but the next day the police said they found the body,” he said.

District Superintendent Police (DSP) Chaudhary Muhammad Safdar and his team intercepted two of the kidnappers as they tried to recover the money on Saturday evening. The investigation revealed that the kidnapper was Ahmed’s maternal cousin Ishaq. Following the arrest of two of the kidnappers the Ahmed’s body was recovered by the police the next day.

The dead body of the victim has been shifted to the Uch Sharif Rural Health Centre for a post mortem. Medical Superintendent Dr Ajmal Bhatti said that the victim had been raped and killed nearly thirteen days ago.

“The kidnappers asked for the money after the boy had already been killed. When they came to claim it we caught them,” DSP Safdar said.

Ishaq is in police custody and is being questioned regarding the whereabouts of the remaining kidnappers.

On hearing the news of his son’s death, Ahmed’s father Iqbal suffered a heart attack and has been shifted to the rural health centre for treatment.

Relatives of the victim have been protesting in front of the Uch Sharif Police Station and demanded that the criminal should be publicly hanged or stoned to death. DSP Chaudary Uhaamad Safdar has given instructions to shift the accused to the Saddar Police station and have assured the relatives of the victim that strict action will be taken against the accused. Police officials said that would launch an FIR after receiving details of the post mortem report.

UCH SHAREEF: A woman was tortured after she tried to pass through the village of a local landlord without permission.

Nasreen Elahi, a mother of two, is a resident of local village Kuks near Uch Sharif. Nasreen owns a small piece of land and on Wednesday, after pouring fertiliser over the land she was attacked on her way back home. “I did my work for the day and while I was headed home I decided to take a shorter route through the fields,” Nasreen said.

Nasreen told the police, that she chose to take a short-cut through her neighbour’s lands owned by local land lord Saleem. Saleem and his accomplices beat Nasreen with sticks and cut her with a scythe for trying to pass through his lands. “Four men attacked me and I could barely see a thing because it was late evening,” she said, adding “I don’t remember what happened afterwards. I woke up in the hospital.”

Nasreen was abandoned in a nearby field where her son found her and took her to the Uch Sharif rural health centre. “I heard rumours about the attack and I immediately went looking for her,” Nasreen’s son Kashif said. Kashif immediately drove his mother to the nearby medical clinic where she was admitted to the emergency ward.Police have lodged an FIR no 16/11 under Section 337A-3 against Saleem, who has escaped. Rural centre in-charge Dr Ajmal Bhatti said that Nasreen had sustained  serious injuries but she would survive.

BAHAWALPUR  (January 09, 2011) : Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has approved grant of Rs 11.4 million for various development projects of Uch Sharif. This was stated by Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Syed Iftikhar Hasan Gilani while talking to newsmen here on Saturday.

He said a metal road would be constructed from Al-Shams Chowk to Tanky Chowk with a cost of Rs 4.5 million while another road from High School Mor to Shams Mahal with a cost of Rs 0.9 million. He further said a bus would also be provided to Girls Degree College to facilitate female students.

Uch Sharif resident Ayesha (4) was playing in front of her house when she was abducted. Ayesha’s family said that they called the police but were unable to locate her until she was found injured and abandoned in front of the rural centre in Uch Sharif.

Medical tests confirmed that Ayesha had been raped and police officials have been on the look out for the man responsible.

Ayesha’s family said that earlier, the police hesitated in registering an FIR for the case and had demanded a bribe from the family of Rs15,000.

Ayesha’s father Ijaz then went to the Uch Sharif Police Station to launch an FIR for the case. Ijaz has appealed that the Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif take notice of this case and order a comprehensive investigation in the case. Doctors at Nishtar Hospital have confirmed that Ayesha is still in a critical condition. “We have issued a medical report confirming that the child was raped and she has suffered severe internal injuries but we are doing our best to keep her alive,” said Dr Imtiaz Ali Rauf. Uch Sharif police officials said that they were still searching for the assailant and were waiting for the child’s condition to improve to hear a description of the accused.

LAHORE: Police and intelligence agencies have arrested 10 members of a terrorist network from southern Punjab, who have alleged links with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Haqqani network in Waziristan.

Intelligence sources said that the arrested terrorists disclosed during initial interrogation that they had received instructions from TTP to attack the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) office in Multan, Ghazi Ghat bridge in Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa Barrage, the Prime Minister’s House, the WAPDA grid station in Vehari and various other sensitive places. Police first arrested TTP southern Punjab commander Muhammad Saeed alias Talha and Al-Asr Trust activist Muhammad Afzal.

According to details, Ahmedpur Sharqia Police arrested Afzal and Saeed at a picket on Katchery Road, while they were riding a motorcycle. The policemen found one kilogramme of gold, two kilogrammes of silver, cash and other valuables from their possession. However, TTP Bahawalpur head Ameer Farooq, who was also with the accused escaped from the spot, and is yet to be arrested.

With help from the revelations made by both the accused, the security agencies then arrested eight other terrorists.

The suspects were arrested from Uch Sharif, Ahmedpur, Pirwala and Jalalpur. Their names are: Muhammad Yousaf, Muhammad Sajjad, Qasim, Abdul Qayyum, Abdur Rehman, Sulayman, Luqman and Bilal.

The arrested suspects have confessed to their involvement in murders and robberies in the area. They also told investigators that they had received paramilitary training in the tribal areas. Sources said that the group is also behind the murder of Amir Dhol, the member of a banned organisation. The suspects have told investigators that they used the money collected from robberies to buy arms and explosives.

The accused are in the custody of Multan and Bahawalpur police and are being kept at an undisclosed location.

LAHORE, June 13: A family from Uch Sharif, living in a camp along a road here, has been running from pillar to post for justice for the last 11 months or so despite apprising Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif of its ordeal.

Stepbrothers refused to give Rajab Hussain Kalhora his due share in moveable and immovable property of their father Ashiq Hussain in the first week of May last year. He lodged a complaint with area police, but his stepbrothers Zahid, Shahid and Nasir and their six accomplices subjected him and his wife to torture and forced them to leave Hataiji city of Ahmadpur tehsil along with their four children.

Rajab came to Lahore along with his family and set up a camp on a footpath near the Lahore Press Club in mid-May last year. “I had a meeting with Justice Chaudhry who, during his visit to Lahore, referred my case to the Lahore High Court chief justice. I explained my case to Justice Sharif and he promised me justice.

“Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif during his Bahawalpur visit on July 22 last year directed the district police officer to redress my grievances within three days. I again met Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore on Feb 8 this year in Lahore and he promised to get me my legal right.

“My father owned 14 shops and two department stores worth of Rs30 million, fertiliser and pesticides business worth of Rs250 million, 12 plots worth of Rs30 million, a bungalow worth of Rs8 million, Rs6.3 million in bank and National Savings accounts and 100 acres of agriculture land at Yazman, Ahmadpur Sharqia and Uch Sharif, but I am on the road, bringing food from the shrine of Bibian Pak Daman three times a day and meeting other needs with the alms passers-by give to my children,” says Rajab, who attempted suicide some time ago along with his family, but was rescued by some God-fearing people.

 UCH SHARIF: A school teacher tortured two brothers in government primary school in moza Bakhtyari in Uch Sharif has been arrested.

According to sources, a school teacher Ijaz Ahmed brutally tortured Fayyaz Ahmed, student of class I and his brother Sajjad Ahmed of class III in primary school Majeedabad. Police registered a report and arrested Ijaz Ahmed late on Friday night from his home. The arrested teacher has denied the charges of torture.

On the other hand, deputy education officer Hanif Anjum has suspended the Ijaz Ahmed ordered inquiry of the incident under supervision of assistant education officer Syed Sajjad Hussain Bukhari.

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has sought a report from a high-level committee within three days on a number of proposed projects in the education, health, agriculture, livestock, tourism and urban development sectors in Bahawalpur.

Political Adviser to CM Muhammad Baligur Rehman proposed a number of development projects in Bahawalpur during his meeting with the chief minister on Sunday. The proposals included setting up of a university for women and a veterinary college, constructing the new building of the women’s polytechnic college and a district headquarters hospital, developing an industrial area on the pattern of the Sundar Industrial Estate and establishing a model cattle and sheep market.

Rehman also suggested a number of proposals for the development of Bahawalpur city as well as promotion of tourism, which included conservation and renovation of Drawar Fort, Uch Sharif shrines, palaces and a zoo, and arranging a jeep rally.

He also proposed restoration of the sites allocated for public parks, improvement of Lal Sohanra Park, setting up of showrooms for the promotion of local handicrafts, revival of the Bahawalpur Development Authority and establishment of two model police stations.

The chief minister had appointed the Bahawalpur division commissioner as focal person for the projects and directed the Health, Industries, Livestock and Dairy Development, Higher Education, Information, Culture and Youth Affairs (IC&YA), Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), Commutation and Works and Irrigation secretaries, and Tourism and Capital Development Authority (CDA) managing directors to visit Bahawalpur within three days and submit a detailed report regarding implementation of the projects.

The CM had also asked Punjab Minister for Special Education Malik Muhammad Iqbal Chunhar, members of National Assembly Baligur Rehman, and Saood Majeed, members of Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Muhammad Ahmad Jajja, Haji Zulfiqar Ali, Malik Jehanzeb Waran and Task Force Chairman Samiullah Chaudhry to remain present in Bahawalpur during the next three days so that they could be consulted regarding development projects.

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has granted approval to construction of roads, improvement of library and installation of a water filtration plant in District Courts Bahawalpur.

He directed Commissioner Bahawalpur to submit him a report regarding lawyers’ colony in Bahawalpur within three days. He further directed him that a comprehensive report should be submitted to him as soon as possible after reviewing problems of bars of all districts of Bahawalpur division.

He issued these instructions while talking to office-bearers of bar associations of Bahawalpur division, at Circuit House, Bahawalpur, Wednesday. Provincial Minister for Special Education Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar, Chairman Taskforce Samiullah Chaudhary, Members National and Provincial Assemblies and office-bearers of bar associations of all the three districts of the division and Muslim League Lawyers Forum were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister while talking to the lawyers, congratulated them on restoration of independent judiciary.

He said that lawyers, political workers and civil society had played an exemplary role for the revival of judiciary and it is his earnest desire that justice is upheld and the goal of progress and prosperity of the country is achieved.

He said that he considers problems of Bahawalpur as his own and no effort will be spared for their solution. He said that government is attaching top priority to the development and uplift of backward areas and in this connection development projects worth billions of rupees have been initiated in Southern Punjab. He said that foundation stone of a 300-bed civil hospital, drug testing laboratory, veterinary college and hospital, working women hall and crafts bazaar in Bahawalpur as well as northern and southern bye-pass has been laid.

He said that a huge amount will be spent on these projects and their completion will result in development of the area and provision of better facilities to the masses. He directed that the problem regarding lawyers’ chambers in Tehsil Yazman should be resolved within two days. The lawyers apprised the Chief Minister of their problems while later a woman complainant from Uch Sharif brought her problem to the notice of the Chief Minister upon which he directed DPO to take immediate action and submit him a report within two days.
